Going home for the Holidays is always fun. You get to catch up with friends that you haven’t seen all year, eat the entire contents of your parents’ fridge cost-free, and sleep until noon. It doesn’t get much better, so enjoy it.
While you’re enjoying your time off, however, don’t forget that you can do a lot of damage to your budget over the Holidays thanks to all the gift giving, travelling, fancy coffees (there’s always a new holiday flavour to try), and checking out that latest movie blockbuster.
Here are some tips to help keep your spending in check during the Holiday break:
1. Be sure to get out with family and friends, but when it comes buying those really fancy (and really expensive) coffees try opting for something a little more practical (and a little more low cost.
2. The only movies you REALLY need to see over the break are the Holiday classics and those will be in heavy rotation on television for free. Seeing the latest movie in theatres is surely a lot of fun, but these days it can add up to an expensive outing in no time at all. Like, just add popcorn.
3. Got a gift exchange, but don't have the budget? Save on your Secret Santa gift buying and do some baking instead. It makes for a fun afternoon, you'll get more bang for your buck, and both you and your friends can enjoy the delicious results.
You see, it is possible to stay on top of your finances while having fun.
However you celebrate, Happy Holidays!
